The tradition Mallika trained in is oral, patient and personal. Almost none of that needs to be given up to teach online — but some of it needs to be rebuilt deliberately. This is how.
A guru listens and corrects in the moment. Every class at Vedic Chords is a live Zoom session with Mallika. The recording exists so the student can revisit it, not so the teaching can be automated away.
Students want to sing the song. They will sing it better, and sooner, after the varisai. The curriculum is deliberately slow at the bottom and fast at the top.
A student moves from Sa to Ri when they can do what Ri requires — not when a term ends. Assessments are real, and it is normal to spend two terms on Ma.
Homework names the exact passage, the number of repetitions and what to listen for. A recording goes back to Mallika; written feedback comes back to the student.
Guardians share the student account. Schedule, homework, feedback, attendance, fees and receipts are all visible without having to ask.
A Carnatic student who learns Western notation reads faster. A pop singer who learns gamaka phrases differently. Students are encouraged to cross over.
